JCO: Blood Mask & New interview
Has anyone else had a chance to read the new Lauren Kelly book yet? Anyone want to discuss?
I won't make any spoilers in this first message, but I just wanted to say how much I liked it. Really a thrilling plot and very intelligently done. I thought of it as a much darker kind of Auntie Mame. It seemed much more critical of that kind of liberal point of view than in Patrick Dennis' book, suggesting there is something false about trying to take on the identity that her artistic aunt wants for her. Would also be interested in speculating with someone about what really happened at the end.
Also, there will be a new audio interview with Oates airing today in conversation with the ever-insightful Michael Silverblatt about the new book of stories High Lonesome:
