I agree the issue of word-counts is fascinating.  But I'm not sure she's paring back, as her new novel THE GRAVEDIGGER'S DAUGHTER, which I just read in galley form, is 608 pages, the longest of her novels except for BLONDE.  Anyone who can't wait until June to read GD can go to abebooks.com, where review copies, I noticed, are already for sale.  Happy reading to all!  --Angie
