JCO: RE: Sunday NY Times Book Review of The Falls
Hi Karen and Everyone:
The real problem with that review for me was the tone. I can even agree
with criticisms such that, on a word for word or sentence for sentence
basis, JCO's style is less than immaculate. But this review was so
condescending! It seemed to be one more case of a review whose main purpose
appeared to be to suggest the reviewer's superiority rather than to say
anything really useful about the writer or the book.
