Re: JCO:An Encounter with the Blind

I'll re-read "Images" too.

Hi Cyrano and Ted,

I read "Encounter with the Blind" before the cascade ended our conversation. I can see the connection to "Where Are You Going..." and will read it again with that in mind. I'm also going to reread "Images" keeping that "time technique" you mentioned in mind.

P.S.
Bloodsmoor should be here this weekend. I'll move forward with that in preparation for discussion if such incurs.

Oh, I did read that a few months ago.  I remember it pretty well now.  It
struck me as the companion piece to the later short story "Where Are You Going
Where Have You Been?"  Only the hapless victim carried away by a killer at the
end of the story is an elderly male instead of a girl.  But I will reread it
anyway.

Re: JCO:An Encounter with the Blind

Hi, Ted. Yes! Let's continue going through By the North Gate. That cascade
episode set the discussion back at least 2 weeks. I'll reread "An Encounter
With the Blind" today for discussion this weekend. And I'm especially
interested in the next story "Images," which is a first example of a time technique
found in several other JCO stories I like. Also, I found myself thinking of
"Images" as I read The Falls: the theme of a young person turning into someone
her parents don't recognize.

Re: JCO: the falls

Hi, Fallsers, Let me know what you make of The Woman in Black. That was
the aspect of the book which intrigued me most. Is she Nina? Is she a
semi-mythical character like Arnold Friend? There are several possibilities.

Good work Rob. I hope you like it.
I really enjoyed it when it got into the whole love canal section. It's a
big, powerful book.

I was going to start Bloodsmoor Romance, but I'm caught up reading a bunch
of the books longlisted for the Booker.

All the best to you
Eric
